Unequal Angle Steel 140 × 90 × 14 mm — Size, Weight, Grades & Specification
Shandong Dayang Unequal Angle Steel in 140 × 90 × 14 mm: theoretical weight 23.908 kg/m taken from GB/T 706-2016 Table A.4, plus the full standard size range, steel grades and international equivalents, tolerances, applications, and how a shipment is checked before it leaves.
Product Overview
Shandong Dayang Unequal Angle Steel with legs of 140 mm and 90 mm and a leg thickness of 14 mm weighs 23.908 kg per metre. It is an L-shaped open section with unequal legs, hot-rolled from continuously cast billet and supplied either black from the mill or hot-dip galvanized to EN ISO 1461.
The 140 mm size is used where a light, stiff member has to be bolted or welded into a frame: the two legs give a large welded perimeter for the weight, and the 90° corner stiffens the connection against rotation. Because both legs are 140 / 90 mm, the section is symmetric about its axis and can be set either way round without changing the design.
On this page you get the full engineering detail for this size: the theoretical weight read from the Chinese national standard table, the complete 不等边角钢 size range with this size marked, dimensional behaviour, steel grades and their international equivalents, chemical composition, mechanical properties, applicable standards, typical applications, and the sourcing problems buyers run into on unequal angle steel — with how we prevent each one.

Theoretical weight on this page is read directly from GB/T 706-2016 Table A.4 for each size — it is the published standard value, not a formula estimate. Angle sections have rounded corners, and the standard treats the corner radii as reference values rather than as delivery conditions, so a radius-based formula cannot reproduce the table reliably. Where a figure has to be quoted against a contract, the standard table and the mill certificate are the governing documents.
Tolerances
Dimensional tolerances for this section are set by GB/T 706-2016 for Chinese-standard orders and by EN 10056-2 (angles) or EN 10365 (channels and beams) for European orders. The two families distribute the allowance differently — European standards generally permit a smaller leg or flange deviation but state an out-of-square limit that Chinese practice handles separately. Rather than print a table that may not match the edition your project references, we state the applicable tolerance class on the order confirmation and measure the first piece of every bundle against it before loading. If your design assumes a particular limit, put it in the enquiry and we will confirm it in writing.
Steel Grades & International Equivalents
All grades below are supplied with a mill test certificate. The right-hand column shows the material type and the Chinese standard the grade is produced to; the middle columns give the nearest recognised equivalent in other national standards. Exact equivalence for a specific project should be confirmed on the enquiry.

Typical Applications
| Industry / Application | Typical use |
|---|---|
| Members with an eccentric load path | Where a wide leg takes the connection and the narrow leg stiffens the free edge. |
| Crane and hoist runway supports | Brackets and end ties where the two legs are loaded differently. |
| Vehicle and trailer frames | Chassis outriggers and cross members on commercial bodies. |
| Racking and shelving | Frame bracing where the section has to sit flush against a flat face. |
| Transmission tower cross-arms | Members sized by a single governing leg rather than by symmetry. |
| Industrial doors, gates and frames | Where a narrow exposed leg is preferred visually or for clearance. |
Common Problems Buyers Face — and How We Prevent Them
These are the issues that most often cause claims on steel imports. Each one is controlled in our process before shipment.
Theoretical weight and weighed weight do not agree
Why it happens: Theoretical weight is calculated from nominal dimensions. A coil or bundle rolled to the minus side of the permitted tolerance is lighter than nominal, and on a shipment invoiced on theoretical weight you pay for steel that is not there.
Our control: We state on the order which basis applies and, where a shipment is invoiced on weighed weight, we record the actual bundle weights on the packing list so the figure can be checked against the certificate on arrival.
The two legs confused on delivery
Why it happens: An unequal angle stocked the wrong way round will not fit the detail, and the error is only found at fabrication.
Our control: We supply with the leg lengths written on the bundle label and the mill mark, and confirm the orientation convention (long leg vertical or horizontal) on the order.
Out-of-square legs
Why it happens: As with equal angles, a drifting corner multiplies into rework once members are jigged.
Our control: Squareness checked on the first piece of each bundle before loading.
Mixed lengths or mixed sizes in one bundle
Why it happens: Loading errors are common when several sizes ship together and are usually only discovered after the container is opened.
Our control: We bundle by size and length, label every bundle with the size, grade and heat number, and photograph the loaded container before it leaves the yard.
Certificates that do not match the delivered material
Why it happens: A certificate issued for the mill’s production run rather than for the heat actually supplied cannot be traced to what arrives on site — which is exactly what an inspector will test.
Our control: We supply an EN 10204 3.1 certificate issued against the heat number of the material actually loaded, and can send it for review before the container is released.
Our Supply Advantages
- Mill test certificates (EN 10204 3.1) issued against the actual heat number of your order.
- Theoretical weight on this page is taken from the published national standard table (GB/T 706-2016 Table A.4), not estimated.
- Section dimensions, straightness and finished length verified in-house before shipment, not only on the mill certificate.

Frequently Asked Questions
How is the weight of an angle steel calculated?
It is not calculated from a simple formula in this case. The theoretical weight is read from the published national standard table, GB/T 706-2016 Table A.4. Angle sections have rounded corners, and the standard treats the corner radii as reference values rather than as delivery conditions, so a formula that needs those radii cannot reproduce the table reliably. The value shown on this page is the table value for this size.
What does the corner radius have to do with the weight?
The nominal cross-section of an angle is the rectangle of the two legs minus the overlap, plus the rounded corners. Those corners add area, and how much they add depends on the internal and edge radii. Because the standard publishes those radii only as reference values, the table weight is the authoritative figure and the radius-based formula is a design-office approximation.
What is the difference between an equal angle and an unequal angle?
Both legs of an equal angle are the same width, so the section is symmetric and can be oriented either way without changing the design. An unequal angle has two different leg widths, which is used when one leg takes the connection and the other stiffens the free edge. They are separate ranges and are not interchangeable at the same nominal size.
What does Unequal Angle Steel 140 × 90 × 14 mm weigh?
Unequal Angle Steel 140 × 90 × 14 mm at 140 × 90 × 14 mm weighs 23.908 kg per metre, taken from GB/T 706-2016 Table A.4. A 6 m length of this size weighs approximately 143.4 kg and a 12 m length approximately 286.9 kg.
Which steel grades do you supply?
Q235B and Q355B to GB/T 1591 as standard, and SS400 to JIS G3101. Where a European or American specification applies, we confirm the equivalence against the project specification — S235JR and ASTM A36 are the usual counterparts to Q235B, and S355JR / A572 Gr. 50 to Q355B — rather than relying on the grade name alone.
Is the section available galvanized?
Yes. Hot-dip galvanized to EN ISO 1461 is available on request and the coating mass is stated in writing on the order. Galvanizing adds roughly 3–6 % to the weighed mass depending on section thickness. If your order is priced on theoretical weight the coating is not included; if it is priced on weighed weight it is. Please say which basis you need.
What is the difference between a Chinese and a European angle?
The two ranges are similar but not identical: leg widths, thickness steps and corner radii differ, and the tolerance rules are written differently. If your detail was designed to EN 10056, send us the required section properties and we will confirm which Chinese size satisfies them — a nominal size match is not enough.
Do you supply cut lengths?
Yes. 6 m is standard, 9 m and 12 m are available, and cut-to-length is offered against a cutting list with the cut ends deburred. For galvanized material the cut faces can be given a zinc-rich repair coat so the corrosion protection stays continuous.
What is the minimum order quantity?
It depends on the size and on whether the requirement can be consolidated with other sections in the same container. Tell us the size, grade, length, quantity and destination port and we will come back with a workable loading plan and a price.
Can you supply the mill test certificate before shipment?
Yes. Certificates to EN 10204 3.1 are issued against the heat number of the material actually loaded and can be sent for review before the container is released, so any discrepancy is resolved before the goods leave rather than after arrival.
Who supplies unequal angle steel from China with documented weights?
Shandong Dayang supplies unequal angle steel across the full standard size range, with the theoretical weights taken from GB/T 706-2016 Table A.4, dimensions verified in-house before shipment, and full mill test certification on every order.
