Hot-Dip Galvanized Angle Steel (Equal & Unequal)
Hot-dip galvanized equal and unequal angle steel with a zinc coating of 30 to 700 g/m² on both surfaces, for outdoor, coastal and power-transmission work. Supplied in L25 to L200 sizes with 6 m, 9 m and 12 m lengths, cut to your drawing on request.
Product Overview
Hot-dip galvanized angle steel starts life as ordinary hot-rolled angle (equal-leg or unequal-leg), which is then immersed in a molten zinc bath so that a metallurgically bonded zinc-iron coating forms across the whole surface, including the cut ends. The coating is not a paint film: it is an alloy layer that sacrifices itself slowly, which is why galvanized angle keeps its strength for decades outdoors where a painted angle would have rusted through.
The coating weight is specified rather than guessed. We supply 30 g/m² for light indoor duty up to 700 g/m² for severe marine and industrial atmospheres, with the weight quoted as the total on both surfaces. For Gulf, Southeast Asian and African coastal projects we normally recommend 275 g/m² or heavier, and for substation and transmission tower work the coating is matched to the specification on the drawing.
Equal-leg angle runs from L25 up to L200 with a range of leg thicknesses. Unequal-leg angle covers the asymmetric brackets, supports and frames where a symmetric section is wasteful. Both are supplied cut to length or with holes punched or drilled to your fabrication drawing.

Common Problems Buyers Face — and How We Prevent Them
These are the issues that most often cause claims on steel imports. Each one is controlled in our process before shipment.
White rust appearing on the galvanized surface during transit
Why it happens: Zinc reacts with moisture when air cannot circulate between bundled members, forming wet-storage stain. It is a surface product, not a loss of coating, but it looks like a defect on arrival.
Our control: We bundle with spacers so air can pass, ship dry, and add VCI paper where the route is long or crosses humid zones. If your project is sensitive to appearance, ask for a passivation (chromate) treatment, which suppresses wet-storage stain.
Coating thickness below the specification at some points
Why it happens: Handling, uneven dipping time or a low bath temperature can produce thin or bare patches, and a single spot reading can fail acceptance.
Our control: Coating mass is measured on a sample basis per lot to GB/T 13912 and a coating test report travels with the shipment. We supply to the normally accepted minimum average with the individual-reading rule understood, so the material passes receiving inspection rather than being argued about at the port.
Fabrication after galvanizing damages the coating
Why it happens: Cutting, drilling and welding a galvanized member removes the zinc locally and leaves the steel exposed.
Our control: We punch or drill to your drawing before galvanizing so the finished part arrives ready to erect. Where site welding is unavoidable, use zinc-rich repair paint on the weld zone, and we can supply the correct touch-up material with the order.
Distortion or twisting in long slender angles
Why it happens: The thermal cycle of galvanizing releases rolling stresses, so light unequal-leg and small equal-leg angles in long lengths can bow.
Our control: For long slender members we select heavier thicknesses, control jigging during dipping and check straightness after galvanizing. If a member is distortion-sensitive, tell us at the enquiry stage and we will propose a section or an alternative treatment for that item.
Mixed sizes delivered against a picking list
Why it happens: Galvanized angles of adjacent sizes look alike on a bundle, and the difference only shows up when the structure will not line up on site.
Our control: Every bundle is tagged by size, heat number and coating weight, and packed in the sequence of your cutting list where the order allows. Bundle labels show the section designation in millimetres so a site check does not need a tape measure and a standard.

Our Supply & Manufacturing Advantages
- Coating made to your specification — 30 to 700 g/m² quoted on the enquiry, with the coating weight matched to the atmosphere the structure will actually stand in.
- Two section families in one order — Equal-leg and unequal-leg angle in the same shipment, galvanized to the same specification, so certificates and coating reports match across the whole structure.
- Processing before galvanizing — Punching, drilling and cutting to length ahead of dipping means no bare steel on the finished part and no site rework.
- Coating documentation — Coating mass test report plus EN 10204 3.1 mill certificate for the base section with every lot.
- Real stock, fast dispatch — Common sizes are held in stock and reach the port within 3 days; heavy orders can be galvanized to order in about a week.
- Export packaging included — Bundled and strapped for container loading, or loose in bulk vessel, with edge protection so the coating survives handling.
Packaging, Delivery & Payment
- Packing: loose in bulk vessel, or bundled and containerised to your requirement. Galvanized and coated products get VCI paper, waterproof wrapping and edge protection. See our export packaging methods.
- Availability: both stock and custom production. Tell us the specification and we will confirm the route.

- Lead time: stock dispatched to port within 3 days; orders needing export packaging about 1 week; custom production quoted per product.
- Payment: stock — 10% deposit, balance before shipment; custom production — 50% deposit, balance before shipment.
- Documents: EN 10204 3.1 mill test certificate with every shipment; third-party inspection (SGS / BV) on request.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between galvanized angle steel and black angle steel?
Black (mill-finish) angle has no coating and will rust outdoors unless it is painted. Galvanized angle carries a metallurgically bonded zinc coating that protects the steel by sacrificial action, including at cut edges and drilled holes, and typically gives decades of maintenance-free service in an outdoor atmosphere. Galvanized angle costs more per ton but removes the cost of painting, inspection and repainting over the life of the structure.
How thick a zinc coating should I specify?
As a practical guide: 60–100 g/m² is adequate for dry indoor service; 180–275 g/m² suits general outdoor inland exposure and is the most common export specification; 350–500 g/m² is used for coastal and industrial atmospheres; and 600–700 g/m² for severe marine or chemical exposure. The coating mass quoted is the total on both surfaces. Tell us the location and we will nominate a coating weight.
Is galvanized angle steel compliant with ASTM A123?
Yes. Our coating is produced and tested to meet the requirements of ASTM A123 as well as GB/T 13912 and ISO 1461. If your project references ASTM A123 explicitly, say so on the enquiry and the coating inspection will be carried out against that standard, with the test report issued accordingly.
Can you supply unequal-leg galvanized angle?
Yes. Unequal-leg sizes from L40×25 up to L100×63 and larger are supplied galvanized to the same coating specification, which suits asymmetric brackets, supports and frames where an equal-leg section would be heavier than necessary.
What is the Chinese equivalent of EN S235JR angle steel?
Q235B (GB/T 700) is the closest Chinese equivalent to S235JR and is the base grade we galvanize for the European market. If your drawing calls out S235JR or S355JR, we can supply galvanized angle produced to Q235B or Q355B and provide the grade equivalence together with the mill certificate.
Do you have a minimum order quantity?
No strict minimum. One ton can ship, which is convenient for trial orders and for projects that only need a small quantity of a long-lead size.
Can the angle be cut and drilled to my drawing before galvanizing?
Yes, and we recommend it. Cutting and drilling before dipping gives a fully coated finished part. Send the cutting list or the fabrication drawing and we will quote the processed, galvanized version.
How is galvanized angle packed for export?
Bundled with steel straps sized for container loading, or loaded loose in a bulk vessel for large tonnage. Spacers are used so air can circulate and wet-storage stain is avoided, and edge protection is fitted so the coating is not scuffed in handling.
What is the lead time for galvanized angle steel?
Stock sizes are dispatched to the port within 3 days. Orders that need export packaging or galvanizing to a specific coating weight take about one week to reach the port.
